Ehlers Danlos Syndromes (EDS)

There are 13 types of EDS, all of which are rare inherited conditions that affect connective tissue. Connective tissues provide support in skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, internal organs and bones. EDS affects people in different ways. For some, the condition is relatively mild, while for others their symptoms can be disabling.

Symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS)

Some types of EDS share symptoms, including:

  • an increased range of joint movement (joint hypermobility)
  • stretchy skin
  • fragile skin that breaks or bruises easily

Hypermobile EDS (hEDS)

This is the most common type of EDS and can cause, amongst other symptoms, problems with digestion and constipation.
